Review of a MegaSlam 72
“It’s like having a real NBA goal in your backyard.”

Basketball Goal Envy
After watching my 15 year old son play basketball with his friends on a 14 year old rusted, crooked, and flimsy portable basketball goal I decided it was time for a good one. I looked at all the Sporting Goods stores and even checked several other sites online and decided that Mega Slam Hoops gave us the most bang for the buck (5 gauge steel was much better than most). And I also figured with the snow we get in NH having the hot dipped galvanization would be a big plus. I was fortunate to find them during their spring sale which saved me a few hundred bucks. I was a little hesitant ordering something so expensive online, but after reading the reviews and the specs I pulled the trigger. I ordered the smaller Mega Slam 554 figuring it might not be the most sturdy but would still be 100x better than what my son was currently using. I'm so happy I chose the one I did. The 54" backboard fits perfectly with our driveway and it's plenty big enough...and the response with the glass backboard is terrific....feels like we're playing in the NBA! And WOW!!! This thing is SOLID as a rock. It really surprised me cause I figured we'd have to cement the pole into the ground to get something this sturdy. I did the installation myself (with the help of my 15 year old son and my wife). Installation was pretty simple (and I'm no engineer or super handy-man). The hardest part of the installation is digging the 4 foot deep hole. It took 17 bags of cement exactly as they said. My kid's friend has a similar type heavy duty basketball goal but he even said that when they dunk on his it sways and vibrates. But not mine! My 15 year old and his friends hang on the rim and dunk all day long. I'm REALLY pleasantly surprised at the sturdiness of this beast. Can't really think of any negatives other than a few minor things. 1. there were a few minor chips in the pole that really bugged me when I unpacked it but are really no big deal. 2. The nuts provided to secure the pole to the base were way too hard to get on the bolts...so I had to go to Home Depot and buy some better quality nuts (I think they were 16mm). Once I got the 4 nuts from Home Depot (about $3) everything went smooth. My neighbor's wife stopped by the other day and said they have "Basketball Goal Envy". Another neighbor stopped by to check it out with his son...and his wife told us that they can't stop talking about it. Anyway.... sorry for the long review but we are VERY happy with the goal. We'll see how it lasts over the course of time. I love the fact that if we ever move we can unscrew it and take it with us. One suggestion... we ordered the better pro break-away rim (it was only $39). So I would suggest that. Seriously... I think I'm more excited about this goal than anyone. And don't let installation intimidate you.... It's pretty easy. Just make sure everything is lined up properly cause once the cement sets it's that way forever.

Family Time
Completed the installation of the MegaSlam 672 without professional help. While the instruction manual does provide the basics, the two installation videos provided significant help.
Given the overall size (this is heavy duty / professional grade) - the installation was simple. Once the concrete base was poured, I had all of the parts organized and ready to go. Once the help arrived, we had the hoop up in about 2 hours.
I have two boys (8 and 10) and the reason to invest in the MegaSlam was to get a basketball goal that would hold up through the years and be ready when all they want to do is dunk with their friends in high school.
Finally - customer service was very responsive as I had a number of questions during the sales process.
The kids and I love our new hoop!

Built Tough
After taking up space in my garage for the past few months, I finally found the time to put the goal up. The videos and install guide are perfect. The prepackaged bolts with washers and nuts attached are a huge time saver...nicely done! The worst part by far is lifting the backboard up. We did it with four people. Two people lifting it, one person steadying, and another person putting the hardware on.
I'm very impressed with how it plays. Shots bounce exactly like they do at my university's gym. The whole system is built like a tank. I don't think it's unrealistic for this goal to last 20+ years.
