OFFICIAL HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL COURT DIMENSIONS

The main measurement that changes with the various court layouts whether it be a high school basketball court, collegiate basketball court, or a professional basketball court is the court length and the 3-point line. Other important measurements are typically standard amongst the various levels of play.  An official high school regulation basketball court, as used by both boys and girls in the UIL, follows these standard measurements:

  • Court Dimensions: 50’ x 84’ 

  • Rim height: 10 feet from the playing surface to the rim 

  • Backboard size: 72 inches wide by 42 inches tall 

  • Backboard location: 4’ from the baseline 

  • Free-throw line: 19 feet from the baseline 

  • Free-throw circle radius: 6 feet 

  • Free-throw lane (the key): 12 feet wide 

  • Center circle radius: 6 feet 

  • Three-point line distance: 19’9”  

  • Restricted Area: 4’ from the center of the rim 

  • Line thickness: 2”
